Petrozavodsk airport eyes $15m upgrade overall

4 Feb '10
The Besovets airport in the Karelian capital city of Petrozavodsk is launching new lighting gear to enable night take-offs and landings to international standards, Karelian regional officials announced.

In the past six years the airport had to operate without proper lighting, allowing passenger planes to take off and land at daytime only, RIA Novosti explains.

The RF has reportedly spent $4.6m on the improvement.

According to the regional officials, a broader upgrade is envisioned, including that of Besovetsĺ runway. To that end, a $10+m federal allocation for 2011 has been announced.
