STX tests tanker for Russia’s PRISCO

5 Mar '09
South Korea’s STX Shipbuilding is water-testing a tanker it has built to order from the port of Nakhodka’s Primorsky Shipping (PRISCO), RIA Novosti reported today, citing PRISCO sources.

Once on water, the new tanker, to be named the Elena, will have equipment installed and be later run for sea trials, the report said.

The vessel will be put into operation in May 2009, the sources said.

The tanker is reportedly one in a series of seven vessels, 51,000 tons of deadweight each.

Under plans, the series is to be fully commissioned by the Koreans by early 2011.
