Kuril airports’ $11.2m for 2009 posted

26 Oct '09
This year’s construction budget for the Mendeleevo and Iturup airports on the Kurils’ islands of Kunashir and Iturup has been reduced by 30%, Sakhalin regional officials said earlier today.

The original federal earmark was a reported $16m, but as a result of a recent federal budget sequestration the actual budget is $11.2m.

Mendeleevo is 84% complete and is to be commissioned by the end of 2009, the officials said, adding that Iturup was only 18% complete.
