Authorities in Nizhny Novgorod have announced plans to launch wireless Internet Wi-Fi free for users on the central streets of the city, Business Monitoring Agency reports citing a blog of the head of the city Oleg Kondrashov in his live journal (oleg-kondrashov.livejournal.com).
The issue was discussed at the meeting of Oleg Kondrashov with participants of the youth summer school of public modeling “Vzlyot-2011”.
“According to the young people, Internet and the “friend Yandex” allow to get answers on any questions in no time. The only problem is lack of Internet access “on the way”. Fortunately we have made significant progress to solve the issue. To the participants delight I was happy to inform them that already this fall we, in partnership with Rostelecom, are going to launch “air Internet” on the two streets – Roshdestvenskaya and Bolshaya Pokrovskaya. These two streets are very known to tourists and have big visitors flow,” Oleg Kondrashov wrote in his blog.
News portal INNOV.ru also reports that free Internet is to appear on the Bolshaya Pokrovskaya and Rozhdestvenskaya Streets.
Mr. Kondrashov added that launching free access to internet on the city’s main streets is the issue of the city prestige and the issue of comfortable stay for tourists and residents. All developed European cities have free Intenet on the main tourist routes, and the tourist streets in Nizhny Novgorod will be no exclusion.
The project is to be realized jointly by the Nizhny Novgorod administration and united operator Rostelecom in the fall of 2011, the news source said.
According to TV and radio company GTRK Nizhny Novgorod, approximate cost of the project for each street is to total about $355,000.
The theme youth tent camp – the summer school of public modeling “Vzlyot-2011” took place in Nizhny Novgorod region’s Chkalovsky district on July 5-15, 2011. The camp participants are students from Nizhny Novgorod region and Moscow.
