AKAR: Internet outruns press on advertisement revenues

The Russian Communication Agencies Association () published a report on Russian advertisement market development in 2011. The report shows that last year online-advertisement for the first time surpassed advertisement in print media, reports.
According to the AKAR report, in 2011 Russian market of Internet advertisement reached $1.4bn, up 56% on 2010, demonstrating the fastest growth among advertisement segments in Russia. In 2010 online-advertisement market in Runet grew by 42%.
In 2011 Internet for the first time outran press and landed on the second place after television in advertisement revenues. Advertisement in press came in at $1.36bn in 2011, up 6% on 2010, while TV advertisement came up by 18% – to $4.4bn.
Total advertisement revenues in all segments in 2011 increased by 21% – to $8.85bn. The market demonstrated impressive growth despite slower rates in the end of the year. Notably, 2011 results exceeded results of the pre-crisis 2008 by 4%.
According to a forecast by eMarketer, overall global advertising expenses in 2011 were to total about $500bn. Specifically global online-advertisement costs were expected to reach $80.2bn in 2011, up 17.2% on 2010.
