Specialists of Innopolis University, together with colleagues from the University of London, plan to develop robotic systems that will help a person at work, in carrying heavy loads and in rehabilitation after a stroke. Tatarstan scientists won 1.5 million rubles in the competition of the RFBR and the Royal Society of London for the best scientific projects of fundamental research.
The developers of the NTI Competence Center in the direction of Technologies of Robotics and Mechatronics Components on the basis of Innopolis University proposed to create robots with drives based on twisting threads - several thin cables are shortened by twisting from an electric motor. It is more energy efficient and simpler, while the carrying capacity of such systems is higher.
Scientists will start by creating simple devices called joysticks. They will then develop robotic exoskeletons.
Igor Gaponov, head of the laboratory of mechatronics, control and prototyping at Innopolis University, noted that now such developments are in demand since physical labor is losing its attractiveness, and the requirements for the quality and quantity of products are increasing.
The developers said that they will be the first in the world to receive the results of a study of human neuromuscular activity during interaction with devices based on twisting threads, the press service of the Innopolis University reports.
Earlier, university specialists presented a “smart” jersey for athletes.
