Russian developer unveils spray to prevent COVID and other infections

10 Sep '20
Resident of the Zhigulevskaya Dolina Technopark LLC Inbio Lab has developed the drug Lactospray for the prevention of infections of various origins.

The development was based on the work of Vladimir Melnikov, a scientist from Samara State Medical University and a scientific mentor of the company.
Ivan Tyumin, General Director of Inbio Lab, a biotechnology company, spoke in more detail about the spray's action: The product is based on the culture of live lactobacilli, which form a biofilm and prevent the fixation of the virus on mucous membranes. Lactobacilli produce lactic acid, which prevents the multiplication of viruses and pathogenic bacteria, so the spray helps to increase the local immunity of the nasopharynx, which is the gateway for infection.
At the end of July, two-month clinical trials of the drug were completed. which were carried out on medical workers against the backdrop of the coronavirus epidemic. The clinic of infectious diseases of the FSBEI HE SamSMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia and the COVID hospital of the Regional Clinical Hospital took part in the tests. The study was conducted on a group of 160 experimental and a control group of 1038 people. 100 employees used the spray in the red zone of the COVID hospital.

During the tests, a 21% decrease in the incidence of COVID-19 was recorded in the experimental group, which proved the clinical effectiveness of Lactospray.

The head of the COVID hospital based on the Seredavin hospital, Elena Strebkova, noted that the drug showed excellent results and recommended it for further implementation in medical practice.
