Wheelchairs to get cozier with robotic attachment

14 Aug '20
As a resident of the Technopark, TESTIM LLC is developing a high-tech robotic complex BIBOT for mechanical wheelchairs. The attachment allows you to autonomously travel along a user-defined route using the autopilot system. The first stage of work has been completed recently.

Sergey Shchekalev, director of TESTIM LLC, told in more detail how a unique invention will affect the quality of life of people with special needs.
“The main elements of the projected complex are the electromotive base, which is attached via a universal adapter to any type of wheelchair, as well as unique hardware and software parts developed during the project. At the current stage, a running model of a universal adapter has been created and is being tested. This adapter allows you to attach a propulsion base to any mechanical wheelchair, as an option, an electric scooter. This device is designed to get rid of muscular efforts when moving on mechanical wheelchairs for people undergoing post-traumatic rehabilitation, wheelchair users and elderly people using mechanical wheelchairs”, explained Sergey Gennadievich.
A modern technological product created by TESTIM at this stage of development has no direct analogs in Russia and abroad. The adapter is easy to use and can be easily mounted on a wheelchair and electric scooter without changing the structure, so you can also use a rental electric scooter.
“In fact, there is a rapid transformation of a simple mechanical wheelchair into an electric, lightweight vehicle with a power reserve of up to 15-25 kilometers per electric scooter battery charge in urban conditions. This will allow people with disabilities to move around without any extra effort,” added Sergey Schekalev.
The main advantages of the development are the low cost of the product and its universal compatibility with all types of mechanical wheelchairs. The resident's team is confident that the adapter will take a strong position in the market in the near future.
