Urals’ AppScale joins Northern Europe’s Top-20 start-ups

18 Nov '11
The Ural’s AppScale was named one of Northern Europe’s 20 best start-ups at Helsinki’s annual Slush start-up contest, portal Venture Business News reports.

Yekaterinburg’s AppScale is a know-how technology that converts between APIs of various social networks, enabling social applications developers to market their products on multiple networks.

Russian contest participants are usually selected from across the Russian regions during local events held by StartupSauna—a seed accelerator for early-stage start-ups in Northern Europe and Russia.

There were 100 teams participating in this year’s competition, predominantly from Northern Europe. A Slush finalist receives $10,000 and a variety of bonuses to carry out his project.

Yekaterinburg turned out to be the only region representing two projects at a time. These were Open Warehouse by Timur Ismagilov (an online service enabling exchange of data on business partners’ inventories) and AppScale by Andrei Loginov.

This year’s competition winner is Finland’s Ovelin, a guitar-playing coach application for the iPad).
