These changes can be caused, for example, by the filling of reservoirs, the development of quarries, the extraction of minerals, the construction of tunnels, the flooding of mines. In most cases, seismicity manifests itself in the form of micro-earthquakes and does not pose a threat to either the object itself or the surrounding areas. However, in the case of a negative scenario of the development of events, it can manifest itself in the form of larger earthquakes, which, in turn, can cause great damage,” noted Arkady Drobchik.To register seismic vibrations the environment uses seismic networks with sensors that are installed in wells. Having instant access to information on seismicity, it is possible to provide timely assessments and recommendations on the process of field development, operation of large-scale facilities, which will allow avoiding economic damage in the event of accidents.
“There are companies in Russia that develop seismic recorders, including those with the ability to transfer data via WI-FI or GSM. The network operation of these recorders is based on continuous data transmission, requiring a constant connection to a broadband Internet or wireless network. Our solution allows us to extract only useful signals from continuous recording, which significantly reduces the amount of transmitted data. This allows you to create a network based on low bandwidth GSM networks.Now the team is planning to create a hardware and software complex for seismic monitoring, consisting of from several registrars and data collection server with alert function, and go to sales. For these purposes, the team again took part in the competition of the Fund for the Promotion of Innovations and received 2 million rubles under the Start-1 program.
Observing seismicity is the first step towards building digital geomechanical models of the geological environment and better managing large objects. Based on the models, it is possible to give recommendations and predictive estimates for the operation of fields or large-scale construction,” added Arkady Drobchik.
