Chechnya to heat houses with goethermal springs

2 Apr '12
Authorities in the Republic of Chechnya intend to introduce housing heating system using geothermal springs, news agency Cleandex reports citing regional officials.

The renewable energy sources program implies development of system of geothermal springs, as well as hydro power stations, solar and wind energies.

Tamirlan Matayev, the deputy minister of industry and energy of the Republic of Chechnya, “In this project our ministry cooperates with the Grozny State Oil Technical University and the State Geological Museum. We have held a round table on the system development with professor Malyshev and agreed that geothermal springs have a huge economics potential. According to our data, there are 14 springs in the republic.”

He specified that detailed analysis and plan of using springs had yet to be developed: “Scientific research and R&D might take several years. We propose that geothermal springs should only be used for heating houses, located around the springs. Distant use would not be irrational.”

Mr. Matayev also added that the proposal has been submitted to the Krzhizhanovsky Energy Science and Research Institute for being included into the subprogram of complex study of geothermal waters of the federal Electric Energy Modernization Program till 2030.
