Russia to draft new Code to regulate digital economy

13 Mar '17
Russia may soon have its “Digital Code,” a unified document to guide the regulation of the national “digital economy,” portal Firrma.ru reported, citing Vladimir Averbakh who’s responsible for the national E-Government project in the Russian Cabinet.

Evgeny Komar, another official running the Cabinet’s IT and Communications Dept, believes it’s crucial to determine what technologies are the pillars of the “digital economy” and what sectors will benefit from these. The new document is also expected to help put together changes in the Russian law required for transition to the new type of economy.

The idea was first put forward last year; it was approved by all the parties involved, and was generally accepted. The drafting of the new Code may take up to two years.
