Science based start- ups present their breakthrough business to investors and opinion leaders to become “Falling Walls Science Start-Up of the Year 2015” on November 8.
Concept: Falling Walls Venture is an international forum for outstanding science based start-up companies, venture capitalists and strategic investors as well as their wider academic and business environment. 20 leading academic institutions and venture capitalists present their most outstanding science based enterprises to an audience and a distinguished jury. It takes place on November 8, 2015, the eve of the Falling Walls Conference (on November 9).
In the past among the venture capital companies that nominated a science based start-up were Amadeus Capital Partners (London), Caixa Capital Risc (Barcelona), Earlybird Venture Capital (Berlin), Endeavour Vision (Geneva), Enso Ventures (London), LSP Life Sciences Partners (Munich), Omnes Capital (Paris), Polaris Partners (Waltham, Mass.), Russian Venture Company (Moscow), Total Energy Ventures (Paris).
The following research institutions resp. universities nominated start-ups: ETH Zurich, Helmholtz Association, KAUST, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, McMaster University, Max Planck Society, New York University, Princeton University, University College London, University of California, San Diego, University of Copenhagen, University of Edinburgh, University of Vienna, Technische Universität Berlin, Technische Universität München, Weizmann Institute of Science, VU University Amsterdam.
Participants: 20 leading international academic institutions and international venture capitalists nominate their most outstanding science based start-up. Following a one minute introduction by the recommending institution each start-up presents their case in five minutes. Then two minutes of Q&A are to follow. An international jury awards the most convincing concept. The winners (Falling Walls Science Start-Up of the Year 2015) will present themselves in front of an audience of 600 international decision makers at the Falling Walls Conference on the next day, November 9, 2015.
Partners: Falling Walls Venture is initiated by the Falling Walls Foundation (a charity) and takes place in cooperation with ASTP-Proton, the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP), the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EVCA), the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT), A.T. Kearney, international partner universities and research institutions.

business, politics, the arts and society. It was initiated on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
