The Ministry of Agriculture of Russian Federation plans to use farm automatization technology of Sitronics Microelectronics, Russia’s largest microelectronics manufacturer, reports.
The Ministry reportedly intends to use the company’s 180-nanometer RFID-tags for chipping cattle. Government is currently negotiating possible contract with the company. Each chip costs about 40 Rubles, or approximately $1.34. The contract size has yet to be disclosed.
At present time Russian legislation prohibits animal chipping. Federal government is reportedly working on passing necessary amendments into respective laws. Animal chipping practice is used worldwide, with Russia being the only meat importing country that has not yet implemented the technology.
SITRONICS Microelectronics is one of the business divisions of the high-tech corporate group SITRONICS, the largest manufacturer and exporter of microelectronics in Russia and CIS. The division is headed by JSC Mikron that performs scientific research, development, production and sale of integrated circuits, RFID-tags and telecom-cards.
