1 Dec '11
The company Yota prepares a joint project with one of the Russian “big-three” mobile operators Megafon, reports.
Under plans, Yota is to use Megafon’t infrastructure for laying out its LTE network. For that Megafon will receive commission from the partner.
“That means that Yota will install its own LTE-equipment on the base stations of MegaFon in those cities, where the company does not have its own infrastructure. For that, the company is to pay a commission to the operator. The size of the commission will depend on the amount of provided services,” RBC daily’s source reports.
Earlier RBC daily’s sources said that Yota planned to carry out large-scale expansion in Russia and cover about 120 cities with its 4G network in the next two to three years. Next year the company intended to access markets of several dozens of cities. “However, as of today, Yota only has its own infrastructure in about ten of the cities. Among these are Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Sochi. This is not enough for carrying out a wholesome federal project,” one of RBC daily’s sources stated.
According to RBC daily’s sources, MegaFon also intends to rent out its networks to various local players. “Thus, the operator is actually ready to realize the MVNO model, however not on the main markets, but local ones,” the sources said.
MegaFon and Yota representatives would not comment on the joint project.
