Russia to apply Sochi Olympics’ ‘green’ construction technologies across country
2 Jun '14
The ‘green’ construction standards used in building Sochi Olympics sports facilities will be applied all over Russia, Klag.ru, a Russian construction sector portal, reported earlier this month, citing a source at the Olympstroi state-owned construction corporation.
According to an Olympstroi spokesman, the ‘green’ construction technologies “are perhaps the key and most valuable legacy of the most recent Winter Games.” Specialists believe that the most promising projects and technologies used in Sochi include the rational tapping of water resources, next gen techniques for the recycling of construction waste, and energy-efficient technologies.
Special emphasis will be put on energy efficiency at projects already commissioned across Russia, a focus that has not been so widespread in this country yet. In Sochi, Olympstroi said, the dramatic saving of resources was primarily owed to the use of automatic control systems and special technologies that help regulate ventilation and lighting. Other factors that impacted the situation at the Games reportedly include the wide application of modern LEDs, state-of-the-art energy-saving lighting engineering, and high-tech heat insulation materials.
