Chukotka’s Jan.-Feb. gold production up 15 times y/y

Chukotka gold miners report a 15-time year-on-year increase in January – February gold production, RIA Novosti said, citing regional government sources.

As of March 1, 4,736.7 kilograms of the precious metal were extracted, the sources said.

In 2008, Chukotka was reportedly Russia’s second largest gold producer after Krasnoyarsk Region with 21,843.7 kilograms extracted.

The sources also said that in 2009, Chukotka gold miners expected to top a 30-ton benchmark.
