Sakhalin gas expected to flow to Pacific coast in 2011

10 Feb '09
The first stage of the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok system to transport Sakhalin natural gas to Russias Primorsky and, prospectively, to Asian-Pacific countries is to be commissioned in 2011, RIA Novosti reported today, citing a Gazprom spokesman.

Under plans, out of the projected 35 billion cubic-meters of gas a year 20 billion would be supplied to Far East consumers while the rest would be exported to Asian-Pacific countries, predominantly Korea.

According to the Gazprom spokesman, at the project inception the gas transportation system will be delivering gas from the Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2 projects. At a later stage gas will also be supplied from the Kirinskoye field under the Sakhalin-3 project, he said.

An investment amount has yet to be announced.
