27 Nov '09
Uranium holding Atomredmetzoloto has plans to develop a design for its metal and mining complex at Yakutias Elkonskoye uranium field in 2010-2011, CEO Vadim Zhivov said today.

Under plans, construction and commissioning are scheduled for 2012-2019; the complex will be fully launched between 2017 and 2031.

From that point, Mr. Zhivov said, the complex will be producing up to 25% of uranium used by Russias nuclear energy companies.

The RF government will reportedly own 51% of Elkonsky Metal & Mining.

The cost of the project has yet to be announced.

Yakutias uranium reserves are estimated at 319,000 (6% of global reserves). According to RIA Novosti, the Elkonskoye field is one of the worlds largest uranium deposits (5.3% of recoverable global reserves).

Atomredmetzoloto is the uranium division of nuclear energy holding Atomenergoprom.
