ALROSA diversifies, eyes $9.7bn metallurgy

Yakutia-based diamond producer ALROSA has announced its diversification plan that includes an estimated $9.7bn investment in construction of two iron-ore mining and ore-processing plants and a metallurgical factory in Southern Yakutia, ALROSA Investment Groups CEO Igor Prokhorenko said today.

According to the announcement, the aggregate capacity of the iron-ore mining and ore-processing plants is expected to be 16 million tons of iron-ore concentrate.

The reported capacity of the metallurgical factory will be 5 million tons of metal-rolls a year.

The complex will be marketing its products both domestically and internationally, Mr. Prokhorenko said.
