To develop Russia’s Far Eastern fishing fleet the area needs 562 new ships of various types, said Andrei Krainiy, head of Russia’s Rosrybolovstvo fishing management agency, in his speech in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Khabarovsk Region.
He estimated a new 11-year ship-building capex program to be worth more than $4bn.
According to Mr. Krainiy, construction of large ships with the refrigerator capacity of up to 150 tons of fish a year is a priority.
The investment program has been reportedly adopted within the framework of a larger one aimed at placing new construction orders with Russian shipyards rather than foreign ones.
