Volgograd puts together $31m to combat unemployment

Over $31m is to be raised in 2009 to prevent growing unemployment and support the labor market in Volgograd Region, regional officials announced today.

The funding is reportedly to be assigned by government, with $3m to be contributed by the region's largest employers, including metallurgic plant Krasny Oktyabr, chemical companies Chemprom and Kaustic, and others.

The funds are to be spent on personnel retraining, arrangement of paid community services, assistance in relocating the unemployed to their new work places, and promotion of self-employment among the jobless.
