Soccer players and pop singer aid Russia’s Grishin in gaming investment deal

Grishin Robotics, a Russian fund, has led an A investment round in Wonder, a U.S.-based game solutions developer, portal Firrma.ru reported, citing a source in the fund.
In this $14m deal, the co-investors include TCL, a Chinese household electronics manufacturer, 8VC and Moonshots Capital, two U.S.-headquartered VC funds with a history of backing Oculus, Hyperloop One, LinkedIn and other high technology projects, as well as a number of celebrity angel investors, such as renowned soccer players Neymar and Gerard Pique, both starring in Spanish club Barcelona, and famous pop singer Shakira.
Wonder is a gaming platform developing a hybrid of a powerful smartphone and gaming console for gamers and broader entertainment content users. The start-up is currently developing a new mobile ecosystem for gamers. Headquartered in Los Angeles, the young company was founded by high tech enthusiasts formerly working for Microsoft, HTC, Disney, Apple, Sony, Activision, Riot Games, Google and Facebook.
Grishin Robotics is a global investment company established by Mail.Ru Group chairman Dmitry Grishin in an effort to support the development of mass-segment personalized robotics across the world.
