Sberbank to look harder at clients’ lips

20 Mar '17
Sberbank, Russia’s largest savings bank, is working on a new smart system to identify clients by their muscle activity, including lip moves, Sberbank chairman German Gref was quoted by News.mail.ru as saying.

According to Mr. Gref, the new system will not only recognize one’s voice or passwords but also the way a client moves his or her lips when pronouncing passwords, because muscle activity patterns are unique for a person and can’t be faked. Muscle activity can be recognized in any of the client’s physical conditions, he added.

Sberbank invests a lot in identification solutions, nurturing start-up teams and projects working on retina, palm or fingerprint recognition systems. “In our work, it’s not just some kind of abstract interest; it’s our direct interest,” Mr. Gref said.

The Sberbank chairman earlier announced that his bank was working on client voice/face recognition technologies to retire banking cards. A recent voice recognition solution is likely to be introduced later this year in all Sberbank call centers in an effort to make customer service faster and more efficient.
