Primorsky region’s national park “Leopard Land” to get $125m tunnel

A $125m tunnel is to be built in Primorsky region’s national park “Leopard Land”, Kommersant reports.

Construction of the tunnel is reportedly to be financed from the federal budget, as well as private investors, including Gazprom, some banks and individual investors.

The 600-meter tunnel in the region’s Khasansky district is to be built in order for leopards not to have to cross the motor highway.

The 380-hectare Leopard Land national park project is aimed at preserving of leopards. Nowadays the number of population of leopards totals about 35-45 animals.

Timeframes for the project have yet to be disclosed.
