Chelyabinsk regionís $1.3bn water program

Authorities in Chelyabinsk region have approved a $1.3bn program to improve water quality to run over 2010-2020, regional officials report.

As a result of the program, waste water disposal is to decrease by 300 million cubic meters or 90%.

The program priority is to reduce pollution in the Miass river, which is the main source of drinking water in the city of Chelyabinsk.

Under the program, 18 wastewater facilities are to be built, 66 sanitarian zones are to be set up next to water springs, and water intake structures are to be built to supply water to over 10,000 residents.
