Karachayevo-Cherkessia spent $50m on new social facilities

24 Feb '10
Authorities in the Republic of Karachayevo-Cherkessia spent over $50m on construction of social and infrastructure facilities in 2009, regional officials report.

The funds were reportedly used to put into commission over 60 social and infrastructure facilities.

Among the facilities are gas pipelines in the villages of Dzhingirik, Novy Karachay, Ilyich and Storozhevaya in the regions Karachayevsky and Zelenchuksky districts.

Readers' comments:

Although, according to the article, the funds have been assigned, residents of Storozhevaya village never got any money. They have been laying gas pipes to their houses at their own expense. Construction of the main gas pipeline is also financed with their own money.
