RF Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has decreed construction of the Baltiyskaya nuclear power station, the RF government’s official website posts.
The new station will be reportedly located in Kaliningrad Region’s Neman District.
The cost of the project is estimated to be $6.7bn, the source says.
According to the RF government, the first power unit of the station is expected to start operation in 2016, followed by the second one in 2018. The two are reportedly designed to add another 2.3GW in installed capacity.
The RF Cabinet underscores that “the project is open for private investment, including international one”—the first such nuclear energy project in Russia’s history.
