Caterpillar crawls into Novosibirsk with truck plant

US heavy vehicles giant Caterpillar has announced plans to build a truck-producing plant in Novosibirsk, according to reports.

No investment figures have yet been announced.

The firm said it would be buying auto components from local Russian firms for the trucks.

Projected annual capacity at the new plant is 300-350 trucks with load capacities ranging from 50-100 tons.

Work is to kick off in early 2009.
